Have you ever been to a restaurant or party where they served skewered meat smothered with an amazing Asian flavored sauce? You can’t quite pick out the flavors, but your tongue is practically tingling with joy at the delicious flavor.
In most cases, when you ask for the recipe you are brushed off with a quick, “secret family recipe” comment. Well guess who has the secret recipe now for Chinese Spareribs? Me, and after reading this, you!
This is the sauce often used on grilled skewers of meat and on small ribs served in Chinese restaurants. Get ready to hit your print button, because you don’t want to miss this!
Chinese Boiled Spare Ribs
Ribs or Meat: Place ribs, beef, pork or chicken in a large cooking pot. Cover with water and add a three inch piece of fresh crushed or diced ginger. Cook for 1 ½ hours and then drain.
Sauce: Combine one cup sugar, one cup catsup, ¾ cup soy sauce and 1/3 cup oyster sauce.
Pour the sauce over your choice of meat and marinate for two to three hours. Then bake at 350 degrees, or even better, grill over charcoal or wood.

Even my pickiest “non-meat eater” devours these Chinese beef ribs. In the hotter months I plan to cut pieces of chicken and grill them on skewers outside for a delicious summertime dinner. And when people ask for the recipe, I’ll shrug my shoulders as I say, “secret family recipe!”
