A newspaper can be a powerful thing – but not from its print alone. Newspaper has the ability to soak up odors like nothing else.
Got stink? Newspaper can do the trick!
- Musty drawers? Fill them with newspaper, changing every few days until the smell has dissipated.
- Does your refrigerator smell stale? Place newspaper in the drawers or crumbled on the backs of your shelves.
- Stinky sneakers? Fill them with newspaper nightly.
- Spoiled milk spilled in the car? Clean with a mixture of water, baking soda and white vinegar. Blot dry. Cover area with crumpled newspaper, changing as the newspaper becomes wet.
- Do your scrapbooks or photo albums smell musty? First, be sure they do not have mold or mildew that needs to be removed. Then gently fold newspaper in between pages.
- Is your bathroom cabinet smelly? Crumpled newspaper will freshen old stale odors.
When you are using newspaper to get rid of odors, be sure to replace the paper as it becomes saturated with the smells you are removing.

With newspaper sales dropping each year maybe this is the only way they can stay in business.
