easy science experiment

Face it. Nothing can be for fun to a kid than mixing and blowing up stuff.  Here is a great science experiment that is both fun and inexpensive to make.

Put 4 tablespoons vinegar into an empty water bottle (feel free to use up to ¼ cup).  Then take a balloon and pour 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda into the top.  An easy way to do this is place a funnel in the opening of the balloon and slowly pour the baking soda in.  You can also have one person hold each end of the balloon and stretch while another spoons it in.

Place the balloon end around the water bottle mouth.  Be sure no baking soda falls into the vinegar.  You can either have the balloon bent over while you put it on, or have a friend pinch the neck while you attach the balloon.

Hold the balloon upright and start to shake the baking soda into the bottle.  Once the baking soda is in the vinegar, get ready for the show.  When baking soda and vinegar mix, they create carbon dioxide gas. This gas will begin to inflate the balloon, just like magic!
