Do you have a large family to buy for, whether it be for Christmas, Hanukah or several birthdays? Here is a wonderful way to give a gift without breaking the bank.
Build a family movie night box! Purchase or hand decorate a nice box. Any cardboard box will do – and if you have children, you can cover the box with white paper and let them paint on it. Then buy a $20 gift card to any store that sells videos. Fill the box with snacks – from chocolate to popcorn and beef jerky – anything yummy that you think the family will enjoy.
Now you have an amazing gift that everyone will love to open. I have a friend that does this every year for my family at Christmas. The kids love digging through all the snacks, and negotiate movie choice for at least a week. Every day I hear, “Mom, when will it be family movie night?” And even better? I get all my family together for two hours – a very special time for bonding.
This is a particularly nice way to celebrate the birthdays of a large family. Explain that instead of individual gifts throughout the year, you will be giving them one gift on a particular date for everyone. You can even include streamers and balloons to make the movie night more birthday related.
