I recently purchased a beautiful sterling silver necklace as a gift for my friend. It was slightly tarnished, but could be easily cleaned with the Tarn-X I knew I had at home.
The night before she was arriving in town, I looked for the silver polish – only to find we were out! I had to wrap the present that night, since my friend was expected early the next day.
After a bit of research, I decided to try the baking soda and water method for removing tarnish from silver. I simply placed a tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of water and stirred. Then I dipped a cloth in the water and gently rubbed the necklace.
When I saw the tarnish was vanishing, I dipped the entire silver necklace into the cup, and then wiped it dry. As a precaution I then rinsed the necklace with clean water and dried once more – to be sure the baking soda would not damage the necklace.
The results? A shiny sterling silver necklace! Baking soda and water indeed will quickly remove tarnish from sterling silver, and even better, this method is chemical free.

Ah! A blogger after my own heart. I use this trick all the time because silver polish makes me ill.
Thank you for visiting my blog during the UBP. I was sick and pregnant (OK, I’m still pregnant!) and am just now getting back to responding to people who stopped by!
