Cantu Curl Activator Cream Review

I have 3B/3C hair.  Products that normally work for others just won’t work for me.  My curly hair is a constant struggle, with a combination of frizz, ringlets, straight hair and waves. My routine includes a regular Deva haircut, curly girl approved shampoo every few weeks and low porosity hair conditioner scrubbed through every day.

There is no “second or third” day hair for me, ever.  My hair doesn’t do well if I “pineapple” it (placing it in a ponytail on top of your head overnight), and a silk pillowcase makes no difference to my curly hair. I switch around curly hair products, but have recently been using LA extreme sports gel over a leave-in, often times finishing off with Joico Joiwhip or Ouidad Heat and Humidity Gel.  Joico and Ouidad are not “CG approved,” however a curly girl has to do what a curly girl has to do. The subreddit r/curlyhair is my go-to for curly hair tips.

I recently saw a photo of someone who used Cantu Curl Activator Cream.  I tried it on a whim and am somewhat happy with the results. After showering I raked and squished in Cantu Curl Activator Cream.  I followed with LA Looks Extreme Sport Gel and used “praying hands” to smooth it all in and lengthen my curls.

My take on the Cantu Curl Activator Cream?  I found the cream reduces frizz, weighs my hair down just enough and holds up to moist wind better than most products.  I could never use it alone, as I always require something that packs a big punch on holding my curl pattern.  But during this trial, I went through most of my days with minimal frizz.

BUT… my curls began to break and frizz by the end of the day, so it isn’t the “miracle product” I continue to seek. For the money, Cantu Curl Activator Cream is worth trying.  I plan to finish my bottle before I decide if I need a second.  But if you have unruly frizz-filled curls, this product is good enough to be worth trying.
