Review: 7-11 Iced Coffee

As I’ve said before, if you know me, you know I love coffee.  And I’m a cheap date.  I love 7-11 dark mountain roast over Starbucks.

Iced coffee wasn’t my thing until I tried the Dunkin Donuts Iced coffee, with cream, a tiny bit of sugar and a little squirt of the mocha syrup.  Heaven.  So when I saw, “Iced Coffee, Coming Soon!” in 7-11, I nearly did a back flip!

I have to admit, I even visited three different 7-11′s to find one that had the iced coffee.  On the third try, there it was.  I heard angels singing as I went to the machine.  I took a cup, put a little taste of the mocha iced coffee in my cup and delicately sipped.  Darn.  Not so delicately, I took another sip.  Double darn.  It wasn’t what I had hoped.

I tried the French vanilla next – same thing.  Perhaps I am spoiled by the Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee… real cream, real dark coffee.  To me, the 7-11 Iced Coffee tastes a bit like one of the French vanilla creamers with water and a bit of coffee.  And maybe that was my beef with the drink.  I just didn’t taste coffee.

My buddies at the 7-11 down the street let me see the nutrition sheet.  Sure enough, there was no coffee listed.  It said “coffee flavor” and then had added caffeine.

Now, I don’t want to “diss” my favorite coffee shop.  After all, I’m a regular for that Dark Mountain Roast.  But I have to be honest – the iced coffee just doesn’t taste like coffee to me.  I will have it again, and I recommend you try it as well.  After all, I’ve spoken with a few who really enjoy it.

On my next go, however, I plan to fill a glass with ice and pour in ½ a cup of hot Dark Mountain.  Then add the iced coffee from the machine.  This will give me the iced coffee experience with the dark coffee flavor.  I’ll let you know how that goes.  In the meantime, give the iced coffee a try – you just never know!

6/09 UPDATE:  I have posted the 7-11 Iced Coffee nutritional information on Agoosa.

I like the iced coffee that (yeah i know -.-) McDonalds has (or “had” not sure). Probably because of the sugary syrup but i don’t normally drink coffee.

I’ve tried this a few times. I’m an iced *(insert coffee drink here)* drinker. It definently has the vanilla creamer taste. It’s also really syrup-y. I usually do 1/2 the cup full of ice, add water, and then top it off with the fake stuff they sell to me as “coffee”.

You probably didn’t write it down, but incase you did: Can you list the nutritional info?

Make sure it’s a Javo Beverage box inside that machine. Ask the clerk to open it. There are some 7-11′s with a brown box inside that is not a product tailored for this use, and is junk. I personally love the Javo product. And I’m pretty sure there is always real coffee in the Javo Beverage product… that’s the whole point, and the base is incredibly tasty coffee.

    From the 7-11 web site:
Ingredients: Water, Whole Milk, Sugar, Coffee Extract, Disodium Phosphate, Caramel Color (in Mocha flavor only), Natural & Artificial Flavor, Mono & Diglycerides, Food Starch – Modified, Sodium Phophate (sic), Carrageenan

140 calories per 8 oz serving, 25 calories from fat.

My grandmother taught me how to cook, and I don’t remember her ever saying, “This just needs a little Disodium Phosphate,” or, “Gee, should we use Mono or Diglycerides?” Iced coffee should be Ice and coffee, a little cream and sugar if you want, leave the extra stuff out for me thank you very much.

I just looked on line the medium size iced mocha has 420 calories. No wonder it is soooo good. Well i can not have another one of those.

Just tried to Iced Mocha today. You’re right – no coffee taste, but not bad overall! Love your idea of adding coffee to the mix. Will try that next time, especially since it’s on 99 cents here in Cali!

I too love a good cup of “morning joe” however I never aquired a taste for iced coffee. Tried it a few times but I just couldn’t wrap my tongue around it. I guess I’m too traditional.

It took me a few times to “get” iced coffee. I didn’t like it either.. that is, until I discovered Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee! I prefer my 7-11 coffee hot, but will get iced at Dunkin’ Donuts.

this is a ridiculous beverage — made by a now bankrupt company — Javo Beverages (declared bankruptcy 01/11). it’s artificial powdered coffee preserved with chemicals and sweetened with artificial flavors. 7-11, you can do better than this.

Jack, considering how much I love their dark mountain roast (remembering I’m at a 7-11, not a high end coffee shop), I agree. It would be wonderful to have a “real” iced coffee available at 7-11. One in which you could add your own sweeteners and flavorings if you choose to.

This is by far the worst “iced coffee” I’ve ever had. It tastes like an off brand version of Yoohoo. Stay away.
